Amtrak Train Splits Truck in Half in Santa Maria
On Monday, one person was hospitalized after an Amtrak passenger train hit a truck. The incident happened alongside of Highway 1, about a quarter mile north of Brown Road. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk, the pickup truck was split in half by the impact, and the wreckage slammed into two parked vehicles.
The driver of the truck was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries. Half of his truck came to rest in a nearby farm field, and the other half struck vehicles parked nearby. There were no reported injuries of the 250 passengers on the train. This incident is currently under investigation with Union Pacific. Apparently this railroad crossing had warning signs but no crossing arms or lights.
